Michael W. West, Ph.D., P.E., R.G. has over thirty years of experience in the application of geological, geophysical and geotechnical principles to the solution of engineering problems. His education and experience qualify him both as a Registered Professional Engineer (Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, and Arizona) and as a Registered Professional Geologist (California and Wyoming).
Dr. West is involved in a variety of professional activities. He recently completed a two year term on the Board of Directors of the American Consulting Engineers Council/Colorado and is a past Chairman of the Rocky Mountain Section, Association of Engineering Geologists. He was recently appointed by Colorado Governor Roy Romer to two consecutive terms on the Colorado Geological Survey Advisory Committee.
In January 1996, the Jefferson County (Colorado) Commissioners appointed Dr. West to a two year term on the County Engineering Advisory Board. In 1979 and 1981, Dr. West organized and chaired 3-day symposia on dam safety and earthquake hazards in Colorado, respectively. The proceedings of the earthquake hazard symposium were published by the Colorado Geological Survey as Special Publication 19.
He served as technical program chairman for the 1989 national meeting of the Association of Engineering Geologists, the 1994 Geotechnical Seminar of the Colorado Section, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the 1994 Swelling Soils/Bedrock Conference sponsored by the Colorado Geological Survey.
Professional activities and memberships include American Society of Civil Engineers, Geological Society of America, Seismological Society of America, American Geophysical Union, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers.
